Media ReleasesThe ACT's Domestic Violence Prevention Council is concerned about claims made in an article ('AVOs clog our courts') which appeared in the Canberra Times on 25 May.
The ACT's Domestic Violence Prevention Council is concerned about the words used to describe domestic violence in the media.
The recent tragic murders of young children by their fathers raises many important issues. One of these relates to the language which is used to describe what has occurred. Media reports, police interviews and press releases, court judgments and so on, commonly describe such violence using terms which characterise it as part of a relationship, or as a matter of anger or conflict out of control.
